Crown of Feathers
Oh God, this book is fabulous! Written by Nicki Pau Preto, this book is a heartwarming breath-taking first book! It has a great storyline and a unique theme! It’s an excellent read for those who prefer the following genres:
Young adult fiction
Fantasy Fiction
Adventure Fiction
Before I start the review, I’m going to say for those looking for romance; there’s none in this book. Still, there have been many hints of it (I already have two ships!), so I’m guessing that there will be romance in the books after this.
A long time ago, before there were war orphans, before the war itself, the world was ruled by warriors called Phoenix Riders. Phoenix Riders were fierce and legendary; they were a dream for many animages (those with animal magic and the ability to talk to animals.) Until the war came and destroyed all the phoenix riders, or did they? Dreams shattered, and children turned into war orphans…
Veronyka and her sister are also war orphans; the only difference is that her sister, Val, is controlling and thinks that animals should be commanded, whereas Veronyka believes animals should be befriended. But then, with a shocking betrayal from Val, Veronyka leaves to find phoenix riders, with hope and grief in her heart, she ends up turning herself into someone else if it meant joining the phoenix riders.
As the story progresses, Veronyka now Nyk finds herself belonging among the Phoenix Riders...she makes friends (I ship her with this one guy, in particular, no I won’t tell you his name!)...but then her sister shows up, not alone though she brings her a gift! A gift that, with the loss of it, caused Veronyka nothing but pain and grief.
On the other hand, the empire has heard about the Phoenix Riders, and they intend to slaughter each and every one of them with no survivors. With betrayal, family found and lost, secret identities, and a tangle of lies, this book takes you through a breath-taking adventure!
My opinion: Before I write my opinion, I just want to tell you how proud I am of not spoiling the book for you guys! This book is totally different! I mean, I usually read books like Mortal Instruments, Harry Potter, etc. Truthfully, I read this book with a horrible attitude, thinking I’ll hate it; I was wrong! I loved it! It has a unique storyline, and it made me fall in love with the characters!
